A More Affordable Way To Collect For Game Boy
CustomGameCases.Com makes your collection stand out for a low cost!
I am sentimentally attached to the Nintendo Game Boy. It was the the first system that was truly “mine”, as I saved up a ton of allowance, chore, and birthday money to purchase that cream colored brick with spinach-toned graphics. It got played everywhere, inside, outside, in the car, on vacation. It practically never left my side, except when going to school.
As I got older, I actually started to go pretty hard in the early 2000s to obtain a complete in box US set for Game Boy. I got pretty close, about 2/3 of the US releases I had boxes and manuals for, and as you know the boxes are the hardest part to find. For some reason, portable systems such as the Game Boy and Sega Game Gear had their boxes and paperwork discarded at faster rate than the software for their big brother consoles. Price charting shows us that the value of a Game Boy game that is “complete in box” skyrockets, especially for the rarer titles.
Displaying portable games within your collection is an issue as well. Some people put the cartridges in binders within baseball card sleeves, others choose acrylic stands to prop up their favorites, but neither solution gives that “video game library” feel. Enter CustomGameCases.com, a solution for all of your video game case needs. They provide a plethora of artwork for almost every system imaginable and are constantly updating their database with new artwork every week. Recognizable brands such as Limited Run Games and Piko Interactive also utilize CustomGameCases.com for some of their releases.
I ordered a batch of cases, to “test the waters” so to speak. I wanted to see what kind of quality I would receive to store and display my Game Boy games. For $5.59, pretty much any standard Game Boy case can be ordered with the artwork. The end result is a laser print of the custom made artwork to fit the size of a Nintendo DS case, but with a holder for the Game Boy game and paperwork inside. The artwork is printed on semi-gloss paper for a professional look. The pictures within this article are what I ended up with, which I am very pleased! You can also order blank cases in bulk and print your own artwork for a bit cheaper.
In addition to cases for standard cartridges, I also ordered a custom game case of Pokemon Pinball for the Nintendo Game Boy Color. As you may know, this cartridge is much larger due to the extra rumble feature included, along with a AAA-battery. While the case does stick out a bit due to the large form factor and costs a bit extra ($9.99), I am glad that there is an option for these rumble games to be displayed with the others on my shelf. I received this order of cases after 10 days of date of purchase, which is pretty fast considering that every order has to be custom printed and packaged.
Overall I am very happy with my order from CustomGameCases.com given the inexpensive price point to be able to display my games on my shelf using high quality materials. My next order will include more Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance games. The real test will be to see if I can get artwork created for some obscure Japanese Game Boy imports! I will be contacting the company to see what it would take to get this artwork created. I am also considering doing my Sega Game Gear games in a similar fashion, as they have some pretty nifty cases for those as well.
