Sonic Mania is a fantastic entry into the Sonic canon that should not be missed. It’s a reimagining of sorts of the classic Sonic levels you know and love from the original series of games. It did really well for Sega and sold over a million copies within a year of release. A definitive version of the game came out as Sonic Mania Plus, which includes the Encore DLC featuring two new characters, remixed levels, a new bonus level and more. The initial physical release of this version came with a cool holographic slip cover, reversible cover art, and the Art of Sonic Mania book.
So what’s the deal? Well, Sonic Mania Plus was released later in as a limited release. If you want the original print of the North American ESRB version with the extra goodies, it’s beginning to become harder to find. On the secondary market, it seems as though every copy I found for PlayStation 4 was beat up, slip cover ripped, PEGI region, or art book missing. Very few new copies seem to exist, and virtually none from traditional retailers (except from marked up third-party sellers).
But have no fear! I have found a source of these, but you better get them while you can. Video Games Plus seems to have leftover stock of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox versions. To check it out, use the following links:
Sonic Mania Plus for PlayStation 4 - $39.99 CAD (around $29.99 USD)
Sonic Mania Plus for Xbox - $39.99 CAD (around $29.99 USD)
This is exactly where I found and ordered my copy from that you see in the pictures of this article. If you are in the US and have never ordered from Video Games Plus, I can attest that they ship quickly and package games safely. I have ordered from them several times, and never once had an issue. So if you want this gem in your collection, do not delay, because eventually this hedgehog is going to speed away!
