There are a ton of people trying to cash in on the retro gaming hobby these days, but most publications have little substance and do not have the in-depth knowledge required to write such literature. However, one author does stand apart from the rest, and that is Brett Weiss. If you are not familiar, Brett has written numerous full color visual guides regarding classic video games such as his awesome book: 100 Greatest Console Video Games: 1977-1987. Happening right now is the Kickstarter to provide a much needed sequel, 100 Greatest Console Video Games: 1988-1998.
This time, Brett covers that sweet spot in gaming during the height of the 8-bit era, through the start of the late 1990’s where Nintendo 64 and Sony PlayStation reigned supreme. Focusing on hits such as Super Mario Bros. 3, Sonic the Hedgehog, Tomb Raider, and more, Brett has a knack for identifying what strengths make a game a must play and not just analyzing sales data.
